I have chosen the field of environmental graphic design because of its complexity. As designers we are expected to be storytellers, typographers, electricians, composers, and carpenters; and I love the challenge that is presented by the expectation of having such a wide variety of skills. Through the spaces that I have designed and constructed, I have given science and education a face and a body, forming something physical that sparks interaction and interest. Within my designed environments and wayfinding signage, I have pushed for clear and intuitive navigation systems to maximize the educational and experiential yield for my users, aiming to connect with them and anticipate their needs. Whether it be assisting worried parents in easily navigating a children’s hospital or giving children in the Midwest their first experience with marine environments, I want my designs to make life easier and richer for my participants. |
